YE/D09 & 10 - Engineering
#35
Ian didn’t want to leave Engineering. Even when he was just taking something to another department, it felt a little too much like a school field trip. He much rather enjoyed staying in the classroom, or rather, Engineering, and would have slept there if he thought he could get permission.

The sentient dinosaur spoke up, his concentration deep in the bowels of the circuitry that ran the ship. “Mr. Elliot,” he said, “You have my permission to join Commander Jensen in the aeroshuttle bay.”

Though he knew he should have been overjoyed to be helping, and helping the First Officer!!, Ian’s heart sank. Most likely familiar with a young Engineer’s love for the ship’s heart, the Department Head allowed Ian a tether.

“I'm going to give your PADD permissions to remotely reroute the EPS grid on the sections you're assigned” –Ian grinned– “should you see any that get overstressed by the power reroutes we're having to do.”

It somehow reminded him of when his parents would insist on a “nature walk”, and he would squirrel away a PADD and work on ship schematics as he trailed along behind. His father called it “working remotely”. His mother called it Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, though often accompanied with a loving eyeroll.

“Aye sir.” The young Ensign replied, snatching up the PADD like the lifeline it was. “Thank you.” The second two words were said with more sincerity, but then Ian was quickly gone from his haven and on his way to assist the First Officer.
