The bridge settled back into a tense, watchful quiet. The initial chaos of C'had Kestir's arrival had been replaced by the focused hum of a crew awaiting its next set of orders. Ameen heard Lieutenant Gath's crisp acknowledgement over the comm.
Good. Gath is on it. Kestir is on his way to Sickbay...
He saw Lieutenant Ra'an offer some encouraging words about the situation. He appreciated the sentiment; she was right to try and keep morale steady.
She's already thinking like a leader...
As she walked back toward her science station, his eyes followed her for a moment longer than was probably professional. Her curves, the way she moved... it was full of grace and confidence. He could just sit here and just watch her for hours... He quickly snapped his gaze back to the main viewscreen as he cleared his throat.
Right. Focus, Morad...
"Thank you for the insight, Lieutenant," he said, acknowledging her earlier comments. "You make a good point about the Trill's caution. Let's hope it's just a standard precaution. Permission granted of course."
With nothing to do but wait, Ameen turned to his command chair's console. He brought up the Zephyr's main diagnostic display, his fingers moving with familiar ease. He reviewed the engine performance logs from their trip, the structural integrity field status, the power distribution reports. Everything looked stable. At least the ship is holding together well. That's one less thing to worry about.
He glanced at Keir, then back at the viewscreen showing the stars streaming by.
Okay. One diplomatic bombshell dealt with, for now. One medical emergency in progress. And one... utterly captivating Chief Science Officer... I really just want a quiet moment with her when the dust is settled... I... I think I miss her...
He sighed and ran a hand over his face. All he could do now was trust his people. The next report would have to come from Doctor O'Fee, and it would likely decide the course of their entire evening.
