Amila wondered if she was being too forward as she waited for Ameen to give her his official response to her suggestion that she check on preparations.
"Thank you for the insight, Lieutenant," Ameen said, acknowledging her earlier comments. "You make a good point about the Trill's caution. Let's hope it's just a standard precaution. Permission granted of course."
“Thank you, Commander,” she replied seriously, her tone now even more formal and professional than before.
Ameen had mentioned that she and Powl should coordinate on a briefing for the mediator, so she turned to the Tactical Chief before leaving the Bridge. “I’ll be in the Fairwinds Lounge, most likely until it’s time to change for the dinner. If you’d like to stop by to coordinate, or plan to meet somewhere else, I’m flexible. Just let me know when you’re available.”
After speaking with Powl, she stopped by the science station to address Keti. “You should stop by too, if you like. Some of the research you’ve been doing for our holodeck simulations might be helpful for what I’m thinking.”
Once Amila had finished talking to Keti she made her way to the turbolift, and let out a heavy sigh as the doors closed in front of her.
As Ameen was responding to her earlier, she was trying to assess the other crew member’s reactions - particularly Commander Keir’s, since she knew that Ameen had told the First Officer about the two of them. She felt self-conscious receiving compliments from him on the Bridge. He had warned her that people could resent her accomplishments if the two of them were to pursue a romantic relationship. She didn’t think anyone else could have known about their one date, and other than his brief visit a few nights ago, they hadn’t spent any time together outside of the Bridge. However, word gets out in strange ways on a starship.
She also found herself briefly wondering if the compliments were warranted. Would Captain Fields have been so generous with her praise, she wondered as the turbolift came to halt.
Stop thinking like that, Amila. You have work to do.
She made herself smile as the doors opened for her and she stepped off of the turbolift. She needed to let the dinner preparation crew know about the changes, and they weren’t going to be able to put a peppy twist on this VIP dinner if she walked into Fairwinds Lounge looking anxious.
