Mara took a seat on the offered biobed. There was no chance the Bandaran would ever admit to being glad that Robin had been so quick to offer treatment, but she was. The CMO was bloody good at what she did, and the unlikely friendship between the two meant there was also trust there, something that didn’t come easy to the Security officer.
"Go ahead and unzip. It shouldn't take long to get rid of those," the Augment said as she raided a drawer.
Calleja did as she was told, gingerly stripping to the waist. Her upper body was covered in bruises, with the piece de resistance a dinner-plate sized purple and yellow patch directly over her heart where the hilt of her knife had been driven through her armour by the weight of the Klingon she was killing at the time.
“So what do you wanna know?” the Bandaran asked. “I’ll fill in the blanks for ya.”
"Just a general rundown, I guess. All I know is that they started sending wounded over and a pile of dead Klingons." It didn’t take a detective to spot the irritation in Mayfair’s voice, but it faded quickly. "What did you guys find?"
“OK. So we sent over 3 teams. Bridge team took a batterin’ ‘cause the enemy were waitin’ for them, and one of them went berserk and wouldn’t go down. Someone called him He-Mara and when I find out who that was, I’m gonna give ‘em a power wedgie down a turbolift shaft,” Mara joked before carrying on.
“Engineerin’ team got the jump on their enemy so wrapped that up quick. I went with the cargo bay team, thinkin’ that’s where the fight would be ‘cause we had shielded containers and it was a smuggler ship. Enemy had the chance to dig in but it didn’t save ‘em. We lost a couple to a lucky hit on a vat of moonshine, but other than that, took ‘em all down and found that hidden slave compartment, half of which is now in your medlab. Shielded containers weren’t anythin’ major, except for the one that had a Star Fleet officer in. Ex-Artemis too. Nathan Ramius. The name mean anythin’ to you? Apparently he got history with Sydesh, which endears him to me straight away. He’s up on the Bridge now with the Cap’n.”
Calleja watched the CMO’s expression as she dropped Ramius’ name. She still hadn’t really had the chance to gauge opinion of the guy yet, but she trusted Mayfair’s opinion and was keen to find out what she could about the new arrival.
Mostly ‘cause if he sticks around, it’s my fuckin’ job he’ll be after. And they’ll have to drag me outta that office before I give it up after what I had to do to get here…
