The doors to the Fairwinds Lounge slid open, and Morad Ameen stepped inside. He had taken his time getting ready, ensuring every detail of his Class A dress uniform was perfect. The crisp, gray tunic with its white shoulder yoke and sharp red piping of the command division felt formal, even a bit stiff, but that was the point. Tonight was about projecting authority and unwavering professionalism.
Funny how my preloaded dress uniform to the replicator was that of Engineering with a Lieutenant Commander pip... I've never had the chance to wear the command one on the Titania, that or I found a way to get out of doing it... Either way, it is odd how fast the time flies...
He paused for a moment, taking in the scene. Well, I'll be damned, he thought, a flicker of genuine surprise and appreciation running through him. Amila and her team have really outdone themselves. The lounge was barely recognizable. The soft lighting, the mingling music from the playlist she and Powl had put together, the smartly arranged tables... it all created an atmosphere of sophisticated diplomacy. Exactly what I was hoping for...
His eyes scanned the room and quickly found her. Amila. She was speaking with some of the staff, looking every bit the part of a senior officer in her own dress uniform. She looks... incredible. Even more so than usual. He felt that familiar pull, the desire to just walk over and have a normal, easy conversation, but he pushed it down. Not now. Not here. You're the CO. She's the CSO. That's all anyone can see tonight...
He straightened his tunic and walked into the room with a confident stride. He made his way towards Ra'an, his expression one of a pleased host.
"Amila," he said as he approached, his voice calm and appreciative. "You and your team have done an outstanding job. The lounge looks magnificent. You've perfectly captured the professional and welcoming tone we need for this evening." He gave her a formal, yet warm, nod of approval.
He then took a quick look around the room again.
"I don't see our guest of honor yet. Or the rest of the senior staff." He said.
Good. A few more minutes to prepare before the real show begins...
