She noticed him as soon as he walked in. How could she not. He was the commanding officer of the vessel which always carried with it a certain presence. An energy he wore well. But, Amila had been noticing his energy in a room long before this mission. Well before the night he'd asked her out. He began to cross the room, making a direct approach toward her. She straightened herself and pretended not to notice until it was time for her to posture herself at attention.
"Amila," Ameen said as he approached, his voice calm and appreciative. "You and your team have done an outstanding job. The lounge looks magnificent. You've perfectly captured the professional and welcoming tone we need for this evening." He gave her a formal, yet warm, nod of approval.
Amila. Really, in public. She was distracted for a moment by the way he'd shifted to using her first name again - something he'd avoided since she'd been placed under his command.
"I don't see our guest of honor yet. Or the rest of the senior staff." He said.
"It's still early yet," Amila replied, trying to reflect the casual calmness he was currently displaying. "Anytime though. The buffet is open."
