"Thoughts? Concerns? Reckless impulses? I'm not picky at the moment."
Mara had known that there was no chance she’d have been able to sneak onto the Bridge without being noticed. But she hadn’t expected to have her number called quite so quickly by the Captain.
That’s the mark of her. Everyone tellin’ her things, and not only can she absorb all that but she wants my take on it too. Which means I better think of one fast. And it better be useful.
The Security Chief stayed quiet for a moment as Aeryn and then Hallowette reported in. Once the helms officer had had her say, Calleja spoke up.
“My thoughts? Bless your heart for carin’,” Mara said with a feral grin, ‘borrowing’ one of Tyra’s sayings. “But I think the Klingons came across this base by accident. I went over the scans. Pretty much everything here bar a perimeter fence and one half-built shed dates back to the Dominion war. That’s why I don’t believe this is the Dominion resurfacin’, but at the same time we need to know for sure. A full frontal assault all guns blazin’ sounds like fun but it’s a risk I don’t think we need to take. I heard the speculation that we could sneak a runabout through. So let’s put a team on the ground to investigate. Find out who’s really pullin’ the strings down there. Once we’re sure either way, blow it if it’s a bunch of smugglers who got lucky, or call in the cavalry if it ain’t. Either way we should be able to get to the controls on those platforms. ‘Specially with me and my reckless impulses,“ she finished, risking the joke.
Calleja looked around the Bridge, almost inviting a critique of her idea from the others present. She wasn’t a frequent visitor to the ship’s command centre but she was keen to offer her perspective, and certainly wasn’t in the least bit shy about putting forward a plan in the company of much more seasoned veterans than her.
