Personal Log
Lt Cdr Azeraik
I fear that the path of logic has eluded me. Taken individually, each choice that I’ve made has been rational. However, as a whole, the sum of my actions appears chaotic. I find the contradiction vexing.
I joined Starfleet as a scientist to further the pursuit of knowledge. I’ve maintained my commission during the war because I believe that my expertise will help to bring a timely victory for the Federation, thus limiting destruction and suffering. Try as I might, I fail to see the error in my actions.
Senek, my t’hy’la, was a member of the Maquis resistance. The Cardassians have long represented a serious threat to the Alpha Quadrant, and the Federation has committed many serious mistakes that have further exacerbated that threat. To resist, he argued, was logical. Even now, I find that I agree with his assessment.
Today, we received word that the Cardassians and the Jem’Hadar had executed a brutal assault against the Maquis. Logic dictates that there is virtually no possibility that Senek has survived. Curiously, I find my thoughts drifting into scenarios that are increasingly far-fetched, in which we reunite. And yet, if that is what it takes to picture us together again, I will permit myself this lapse.
