HD04 - Science Cadet Amanda Mendoza

Amanda had spent the last four years preparing for this exact moment and now that she was here, every second spent studying for exams felt worth it.

With every step she took, she could feel her heart beat faster and faster, matching the anxiety she could feel coming the closer they got to the bridge. Nothing in her exterior came across as disheveled: her look was perfectly cureted to show her professionalism, from her straight dark hair tied in a high ponytail to her impeccably ironed uniform.

For anyone that got to know Amanda personally, they would tell you that her most distinguishing feature was her constantly calm demeanor that never faltered, even in the most stressful situations. But this was one of the most important moment of her life and it was imperative she make a good impression with the Captain of the USS Yeager.

If only Sara could see me now...I’ll need to send her a message after I get settled.

She followed one of the officers tasked with accompanying her to meet the CO and she wondered what kind of life they led.

They arrived near the Bridge soon after and she stared at the door with a mix of dread and excitement. She took a deep breath and felt her hands unclench, her shoulders relax and her heart slowing down to a steady rythm. It was important for this meeting to go well but it wasn’t the end of the world.

Calm down Amanda, it’s no big deal. Just be your most professional self and everything will be alright.

With her head held high, she followed her escorts inside and was soon met with the magnificent view of deep space. It was what captured her attention first and for a moment she had difficulty looking away. Never in her life had she seen something so beautiful!

“Good morning, Captain. Thank you for taking the time to meet me.” it was said in her most respectful tone and she hoped it woudn’t make her sound too stuffy. She added a small smile just for that.
