As Cindy watched the scrolling data and examined the schematics, her brow furrowed, her efforts to analyze the details very focused as the feed continued. After a moment, she made a few hand movements and projected a holographic display, floating next to her with some of the data. She then created a separate holographic display in 3D that was much larger than the actual device. It slowly rotated as various parts were identified and labelled.
Without turning away from her displays, she said, "Hmmm, I must inquire about the complete purposes of this device. To modify it or repair it, this seems quite possible, but it will require constant care and may compromise his quality of life. Since this was not originally designed for a human, perhaps replacing it with one that is, would be the answer. Obviously he felt the need to have this implanted, but without understanding more about why he did so, it is hard to say if it is better to leave this one intact, replace it, or remove it entirely and then ask him once he is recovered. I suspect that it is used to augment his memory in some way, but I am still trying to determine what other functions it provides."
She looked for the means to prepare to backup any memory that might be stored in it, so that he might not lose whatever data had been stored in it. There was the hope that she could adapt one of their many interfaces and augmentations to adapt to his needs. Most of their research centered around neural interfaces for the use of prosthetics, but there were artificial organs that worked with links to the brain or independently, using their own autonomous processors to regulate certain functions and so on. It wasn't like he was trying to turn himself into a super-soldier or anything, so there were many options available for him. Cindy just wasn't quite sure what to recommend for replacements at this point. Everything she was prepared to offer were things that were already approved for use and deployment to Federation members and was not considered classified, just privileged.
