== Great song! ==
Mara couldn't hide her nervousness as she stepped up. There was a moment when Robin wondered if she was going to keep going or flee the stage. The nurse had seen her take on enemies fearlessly. She'd performed a blind transporter jump at extreme range on the mere hope of rescuing the Captain. The CMO had thought her fearless.
But then I've never really understood stage fright. I always had people praising my voice. Performing was when I wasn't treated as different. Mara didn't have anything close to my easy life, ad there's a big difference between fighting for your life and being vulnerable among friends.
As the Security Chief began to play and sing Robin was deeply impressed. Mara's voice was terrific, practiced and clear, but with a raw fragility. Her piano technique was excellent, with no missed notes. She was definitely an accompliced player. The song was an excellent choice, a good match for the Bandaran. The nurse lost herself in the song.
And when it was over, all too soon, Robin grinned and applauded enthusiastically. "Amazing!"
“Who’s next up?” Calleja asked with an uncharacteristic warm smile on her face. “And everyone OK for drinks? I could use a refill.”
Aeryn agreed. "That was fantastic, Mara, and I'm happy for someone else to go next if they want to. Yeah, Hally was just about to go get us some, what do you fancy?"
The nurse gave it a moment's thought. "Sweet tea, southern style, please." And that meant iced tea with enough sugar to risk a warp core breach, exactly as it was traditionally brewed on her home colony. She grabbed a couple more tacos, staying well away from the nuclear ones at the edge of the plate. Hally could finish those off if she wanted. If she didn't Robin was considering having them beamed into space.
Robin shrugged. "Hey, I'm always up to go again, but someone else can if they want to." She'd narrowed her choice down to two songs, both on her list of 'absolute favorites.' She'd already decided to go karaoke style for the next as neither song was best with piano, at least in her opinion. The terminal could provide the accompaniment. Besides, she'd played quite a bit. Time to sing.
