Ameen watched, his face a mask of calm, as C'had Kestir made his... apology... by lifting his shirt. He heard the various comments from his officers and saw their mixed reactions of amusement, concern, and professionalism.
Well, at least he got down from the chair. That's a start...
Before their guest could launch into another provocative question, Ameen stepped forward, smoothly taking back control of the conversation. He first gave a nod to Amila, a silent 'thank you' for her earlier quick thinking on the music.
"An enlightening introduction, Mediator Kestir," Ameen said, his voice polite but firm, ignoring the part about them being lonely. "We appreciate your candor."
He then caught Lieutenant Gath's attempt to connect with their guest over the jazz music and his well-being. Good man, Gath. Trying to find common ground. He gave his Security Chief a subtle but appreciative nod.
"Now that you're here, allow me to formally introduce my senior staff."
He gestured to Keir. "This is my First Officer and Chief Engineer, Lieutenant Commander Keir 77."
He then gestured to the others who were gathered nearby. "Our Chief Medical Officer, Doctor Evie O'Fee. Our Chief of Security, Lieutenant Gath. The architect of this evening's event, our Chief Science Officer, Lieutenant Amila Ra'an." Ameen's gaze then found the young Vulcan. "And our Acting Chief Tactical Officer, Ensign Torok Powl."
He saw Amila approaching again, her timing perfect. She was right, they needed to move things along.
"Lieutenant Ra'an is right," Ameen announced, his voice projecting a bit more to guide the room. "The buffet is open, and I'm sure our galley staff has outdone themselves. Please, everyone, help yourselves."
He then turned directly to their guest of honor.
"Mediator Kestir," he said, gesturing towards the head table that had been prepared. "If you would join me? I believe we have much to discuss, and it's always better on a full stomach."
Let's see if we can get him talking about the mission now, Ameen thought, leading the way toward the table. One way or another, this dinner is going to be informative...
