The scientist shook their head, seemingly overwhelmed.
“I would like nothing more than to see my people put their suspicions aside and work together. I wish we had achieved peace before we joined the wider galaxy, as it went on Earth. Unfortunately, I have no power to sway my government. All I can do is try to mitigate the damage until they finally come to their senses.
“I appreciate your reluctance to share technology, but we’re not some primitive species. We know that pure dilithium exists, we just don’t have access to it. Our only options are to purify the local supply, or to gain access to a trading partner — which would influence my world’s development in other ways.”
Luraim eyed Khasim somewhat sheepishly, as if looking for reassurance.
“So, shall I return to the lab with your science officer?”
