“Naaaaaah. No can do, Boss. This feels like the big finale, and I’ve already sat through the whole bloody flick—be a real mug to bail before I see how it wraps, eh?” Ollie nodded confidently, "Reckon, that makes me your bruce, Chief, no worries."
“OK. If you get blown up again, it’s your own fault,” Mara replied with a grin.
"What Ollie said, but yes, Chief, I want to see this through as well," Ardanna said.
The Security Chief nodded. Svenson and Pearson were very different people but they gave her hope for the younger officers coming through.
"Apart from what we've already told you, we've since learned that there are sensor networks on the surface, although from this distance we can't tell the exact size and shape of them or how powerful they are,” Ardanna added. “However, they could only cover the base and maybe a kilometer around it. Given what supplies we have and how unlikely it might be that the fences are stronger than duranium, we shouldn't have an issue breaching them.” She nodded to the Australian. "Ollie here had the idea to check old Dominion files, so I'll leave it up to him to tell you what he found out about the base."
“Another time maybe, we don’t really need that right now,” Mara said. “Walk me through the buildings. What have we got?”
Yordan picked up.
“My guess is this one is where the Klingons are keeping the clones,” he said. “Most of the Vorta and Cardassian lifesigns are showing here with Klingons in attendance. Then this one has a sparse number of lifesigns, equal numbers across the 3 races. And this one, I think that’s a barracks or command centre as that’s where you’ll find most of the Klingons. This half-finished hulk outside the compound shows signs of modern Klingon buildings, everything else is Dominion era.”
The Security Chief looked the map over wordlessly for a moment.
“I’m thinkin’ this second buildin’ is the actual clonin’ area,” Mara said, pointing at it. “And it’s whether their command centre is with the barracks, or the pens. We need to know who’s callin’ the shots. Is it just Klingons who got lucky by fallin’ over this place, or have we got actual Dominion influence? But we probably can’t go runnin’ through a barracks with a 12-person team. Less if we split up to check out the clonin’ facility.”
She scratched her chin.
“I’m thinkin’ we do split. Cap’n wants us to take along Science and Medical officers, so they go to the clonin’ facility. I’m leanin’ towards the command centre bein’ in the same buildin’ as the pen rather than the barracks. So that’s where the other team goes. We just don’t have the numbers to crack a barracks. Plus if all else fails, we can cause a prison break and use it for cover.”
Dark eyes looked around. Despite her reputation, Calleja was no dictator, and she was interested in other officers’ takes.
“Thoughts?” she asked.
