Cassidy nearly dropped the tray of tools he was carrying. He would have laughed if the situation weren’t so grim. Did Papaver’s concussion carry over into her new Klingon skull? In any case, he was thankful that the ship’s weapons controls weren’t accessible from sick bay.
“Let’s start with something a little less drastic, eh? If you’re wrong, we’d risk contaminating the timeline at best. At worst, our allies will assume we’ve been hijacked by changelings.”
Cassidy thought hard. He understood the importance of preserving the temporal prime directive, especially when it came to avoiding long meetings with temporal investigation agents.
“What if we prepare the vaccine now and leave it in a probe near the edge of Wairara space, so that we can pick it up when we ‘return’ in 30 years or so? That’s something that the original Yeager would never do, so we might be able to break the spell if your ‘temporal echo’ theory is correct. If this is real, we’d be creating a paradox, but I think the overall damage to the timeline would be less than what could happen if we get stuck in the Dominion War.”
