Luraim’s mouth fell open as Brooks laid out his terms. Now that they'd finally gotten the answer they were looking for, they seemed at a loss for words.
“Thank you, Captain,” they stammered. “Yes, I think it would be best to make the knowledge public. It may upset my government at first, but all Riani will be safer if we eliminate the threat of rianite weapons.”
The scientist then turned their attention to Khasim as she began to plan her scientific approach. They shifted into a more comfortable posture, now that the topic had turned toward their area of expertise.
“There’s a sample waiting in the science lab now. It’s very stable when it’s bonded to dilithium. In its pure form, though, it’s extremely volatile. Pure rianite needs to be stored at a precise temperature — very cold — or else it’s liable to explode. We learned that the hard way during our first test flight."
Luraim shuddered, suppressing a painful memory.
"So far, we haven’t found a way to dispose of it safely. I’m hoping you’ll have better luck with the tools available here.”
