She turned back to Saida, softening her expression.
“Not exactly the welcome anyone expects. But I’m glad you’re alive.” Her gaze flicked briefly to the surgical scars—evidence of medical intervention.
“If your crew was flying blind, there’s no way you could’ve known this was restricted space,” Beno continued. “Or communicated it, either.”
She paused, weighing her next words. The crash alone would haunt anyone for a lifetime. But she couldn’t afford to lead the witness.
“You were on a diplomatic mission. I’m assuming your pilot filed a proper flight plan to and from the planet?” She let the question hang. “And before you left Earth—did they brief you on what to expect here?”
