Lucy listened with amazement and enjoyment as Mara and Robin expressed themselves through song. She wasn't familiar with either of the songs, but she deeply appreciated them. Mara had definitely been hiding her lamp under a basket, but those with lives that required a constant show of strength couldn’t always express themselves as freely as most. Cultures were diverse, but safe spaces where someone could express themselves unfiltered were to be treasured.
Lucy cheered both Mara and Robin when each had finished, but there were always hecklers. Robin took it in good nature. Lucy could take constructive criticism, but still needed to work on herself. Aeryn took the stage and gave her rendition of a song that Lucy was familiar with. Since the Academy had a galactic enrollment there were others from the United Kingdom, so certain musical tastes followed with the cadets.
Aeryn was buzzing when she came down from the stage. It was getting late so it was between Hally and Lucy for the next song and whoever closed off the evening afterward.
“Aeryn, was that Amy Winehouse or The Zutons?”
Lucy looked over at Hally with a friendly head tilt and smile. Lucy had been pondering her track since the idea of solos had been raised. A hair rock standard from a band with a distinct reputation had been going through her head as she thought. The lyrics were almost Lucy at her most unvarnished. Totally raw and naughty.
“I’d say it’s between myself and Hally. What I’ve got in mind is something loud and disruptive, so I’ll defer to her on which of us goes next.”
