Alex approved of Beno's line of questioning. It was Standard Operating Procedure to make contact with the planet once you were in range. It was considered acceptable to take a position in high orbit before making confirmed contact, but contact should be made before taking position in a standard or low orbit. It was considered rude and even dangerous to approach a planet without contact. On any inhabited planet, there were obvious traffic concerns and approved approach vectors to avoid known satellites, but in this case, the diplomatic situation was another consideration. For there to be a subspace pulse at that range from the planet, that would be very unusual. Although it could not yet be said with certainty, it was more likely that either the pilot had approached too close without contact, or someone had targeted them on approach. He would remain quiet for the moment, interested in both the reply from Saida and the ship.
