Lucy appreciated Mark Ronson’s version as sung by Amy Winehouse. The video was certainly creative, though so was the original video for the Zutons. She could have volunteered instead of asking Hally. Her sense of timing sucked. A sweet young girl with a good heart, Lucy was glad that Hally was forming some very solid friendships.
It looked like it was her turn to sing and that suddenly made Lucy apprehensive about her choice. She could have picked Queen, Joan Jett or Lita Ford, but she also knew that it was all about self expression. She felt the need to yell and be loud. A proper word soup song, but also a solid rock track, and the words moved her. Lucy dug her fingers in and fluffed her locks to get in the right mood before she stepped on stage.
She looked out from the stage and tried to keep her nerve. It felt right to apologise beforehand. Apologising afterwards would be fair, but she wanted to do this on her terms. Next time she’d give Seven Seas of Rhye a go, if she was allowed near the microphone.
“To anyone who knows this song, I apologise, and to anyone with sensitive hearing, I also apologise.” she said with a smile. Lucy realised that her smiles were confusing to anyone.
She keyed the backing track of her cacophony of choice and lost herself in the opening guitar riff. She watched the countdown to the opening words and let rip with her nearest approximation of Vince Neil.

Kickstart My Heart by Mötley Crüe
Ooh, yeah
M-m-m-m-m-m-mow
Yeah
When I get high, I get high on speed
Top fuel funny car's a drug for me
My heart, my heart
Kickstart my heart
Always got the cops coming after me
Custom built bike doing 103
My heart, my heart
Kickstart my heart
Ooh, are you ready girls?
Ooh, are you ready now?
Whoa, yeah
Kickstart my heart, give it a start
Whoa, yeah
Baby
Whoa, yeah
Kickstart my heart, hope it never stops
Ooh, yeah
Baby, yeah
Skydive naked from an aeroplane
Or a lady with a body from outer space
My heart, my heart
Kickstart my heart
Say I got trouble, trouble in my eyes
I'm just looking for another good time
My heart, my heart
Kickstart my heart
Yeah, are you ready girls?
Yeah, are you ready now, now, now?
Whoa, yeah
Kickstart my heart, give it a start
Whoa, yeah
Baby
Whoa, yeah
Kickstart my heart, hope it never stops
Whoa, yeah
Baby
Kickstart my heart
When we started this band, all we needed
Needed was a laugh
Years gone by, I'd say we've kicked some ass
When I'm enraged or hitting the stage
Adrenaline rushing through my veins
And I'd say we're still kicking ass
I say, ooh-ah
Kickstart my heart, hope it never stops
And to think, we did all of this to rock
Whoa, yeah
Kickstart my heart, give it a start
Whoa, yeah
B-b-b-b-b-b-baby
Whoa, yeah
Kickstart my heart, hope it never stops
Whoa, yeah
Baby
Kickstart my heart, hope it never stops
Whoa, yeah
Baby
Whoa, yeah
Kickstart my heart, give it a start
Whoa, yeah
Kickstart my heart
Lucy definitely felt it. It was a lot of energy. She had yelled and let rip with the lyrics. She didn’t want to be a surprise. It was good to be able to show a person’s facets to those she considered as friends. Lucy got off stage before the jackals had time to recover.
Could also do Kiss Me Deadly, some other time.
Lucy made it back to her seat and waited for her own heart to drop to a low whine. The adrenalin kick was intense. At least when it was a karaoke room the only audience you had concern yourself with were your friends. Well, she’d done it and if her choice had gone down well enough, she might get another chance. She carefully took a sip as she waited for her heartbeat to reach her preferred tempo.
