Aeryn's support was unsurprising. The slightly older woman had been nothing but sweet and supportive all evening, giving Hallowette more grace and attention than she probably deserved. Honestly though, everyone at the table had shown her the same level of kindness, and Hally was genuinely appreciative of the efforts made on her behalf. For the first time in months she felt like herself, like she belonged.
She chuckled as she overheard a off color joke at a nearby table, and she took a deep sip of her citrusy beverage before turning her attention towards Aeryn with the intent of inquiring if she had heard the joke as well, but before she could do so the howling screech of electric instruments filled the space around her. It seemed that whatever song Lucy had chosen was going to be singularly unique on the night.
Lucy hadn't been playing about when she stated that the song she had chosen to sing was loud and disruptive. Unlike boisterous and often primal Klingon ballads, or even Andorian war chants, this was something she had only experienced a few times in her life. She couldn't quite remember what the type of music was called, but it was just as aggressive as the two aforementioned species music, but also loud, raucous and irreverent.
Hally didn't quite hate it to be honest. It did appeal to some part of her youth, though she couldn't quite put her finger on it. As usual, human culture demonstrated just how influential, complicated and widespread it could be - almost as if every other species in the galaxy was somehow intrinsically tied to humanity in some way, yet were also were so, so incredibly different.
Hally did her best to appreciate the song choice for what it was, but she couldn't help but glance at the others at the table and try to gauge their reactions as well. As the frequent sole non-human within a group, she had long ago realized that her tastes and preferences were often at odds with much of human culture, but then again, not always. She figured the aggression harbored in the fast paced and loud music might appeal to Mara's warrior side, and while she would have guessed that Robin and Aeryn might prefer something more elegant, she couldn't be sure.
If anything though, it certainly put a fine point on the song that she had chosen - one that probably couldn't be more different from the ancient earth power anthem that Lucy had chosen - but then, she supposed - that's what all of this, what Starfleet was ultimately about. Cultural exchange and finding proper friendship in their differences.
Still, she wondered if maybe she should just forgo her turn...or at least choose something more high energy than the more understated and artful one she had been considering...
