Qi nodded as Mendoza gave her report. “Thanks Mendoza. It’s a good thing that we didn’t come much closer to the anomaly.”
The image of the unblinking Benzite officer was etched in Qi’s mind. How much of that vision of the past was real? Surely, now that they’d cleared the anomaly, Bowman would be waking up in sickbay. The alternative was too horrible to consider.
The voice of a security officer pulled him away from his thoughts. It was a welcome reprieve.
“Chief d’Tor’an directed me to obtain first-hand confirmation regarding any remaining temporal effects impacting flight operations. Are sensors still returning residual distortions, or have they cleared entirely?”
“We’ve cleared the anomaly,” Qi replied. “We’ll need to run a full diagnostic on affected systems, but for now you can tell d’Tor’an that sensor function is —“
Just as he was about to say restored, the navigational sensors burnt out as the ship began taking fire from the Tusslebout. Qi gripped his console harder, bracing against the impact.
“One problem solved, on to the next,” he huffed. “Mendoza, run an analysis on Tusslebout’s weapons. I’ll work on the nav system. There are so many anomalies in this system that we should be able to triangulate our position relative to each of them.”
He went to work writing an algorithm using the holographic keys on his console. Speed and precision were equally important.
