Keir and Samantha had been on a date and having recently completed a shift; neither of them had expected to be summoned Both had been busy lately and their comm badges were on the bags they had brought to their favorite beach program. They were sufficiently distracted that it was Sam who eventually pointed out the summons.
Tapping it, Keir enabled a replay function and heard the urgent summons. Despite their previously relaxed and distracted state both were professionals and quickly made their way to their quarters.
Shortly after; Keir made hir way to the bridge and took the FO's seat. Realizing that the current Engineering officer was nearly past his shift s/he tapped hir badge to summon the next duty officer. "Midshipman A'kilees to Bridge stat"
As s/he worked on scanning the vessel in keeping with the CO's request s/he turned briefly to speak to the COS. "Lt Gath if you need additional Security personnel, CPO Reagan is standing by."
Whatever had befallen this nearly derelict ship it was quite clear that without the Zephyr's aid there would soon be no life aboard. "Initiating scan of propulsion systems now Captain." As s/he completed hir report Keir added privately to hir fellow Command officer. "Sorry for the slow response Captain, we were on a holodeck beach."
Nothing more would be needed; the Captain would recognize a situation that clearly explained the delayed arrival of his FO.
Having scanned the propulsion systems Keir then extended the scan and added to hir report. "Minimal power Captain. The systems are primitive, but apparently still sufficient to maintain minimal level, though it would not be for long Sir."
