Jaein often discussed his life during the Dominion War, and all of the things he saw during it. He had seen several battles, fought several times both then and on patrol duties around Bajor afterwards while part of the Militia. However, now that he was in the thick of it again, he was realizing several different things.
First, those experiences were more than twenty years ago. He had lived a lot since then, raised a family and settled into a comfortable life of building starships. He wasn't exactly prepared to be thrown into the thick of things.
Second, there was a major difference between ship-to-ship engagements and battles on the ground. While he had been in fights on the ground, it was only once or twice; most of his experience with battlefields was with their aftermath and cleaning up afterwards.
Third, even if he had been in a stand-up phaser fight yesterday, every one is different.
He followed the instructions of the security team as closely as he could, taking his position and opening fire when directed, but try as he might Jaein wasn't really able to get a good image of what was going on. Instead he simply tried to fight off the Klingons as best he could, and was almost surprised when they fell silent.
"Lieutenant Calleja," Mayfair called to the COS, "no more Klingon lifesigns within a click. Cardassian and Vorta lifesigns are diminishing. Suggest we move; something's going on there and I need to get there now."
Jaein simply stood, catching his breath for a moment as he gathered up his engineering kit again and looked around for Han. Odds were that their services were going to be needed in the next few minutes. Once he spied her, he nodded to the security team. "Engineering ready to move when you are."
