As her flanking team quickly covered ground, Mara’s attention was on the Klingon forces. She knew she was taking a risk by leaving a defensible position and potentially moving into range of a Klingon charge, and whilst the Security Chief herself had little to fear from a melee, the rest of the team was not as comfortable as she was with a blade. But the reward of a swift end to the fight made the gamble worth it.
With the teams in position, Calleja raised her own rifle and braced it against her shoulder.
“Single shots, mark targets. Fire!” she ordered.
Focused, precise volleys from the flanking officers brought the Klingon attack to an end that was so painless for the Artemis crew it left Mara feeling almost cheated. She’d accounted for the nearest enemy fighter as the more capable marksmen in the teams scythed down the rest of them, but it was pretty clear that this bunch were a bunch of enthusiastic amateurs.
What’s the old sports sayin’. Can only beat what’s in front of you. Guess that holds true in combat as well.
[Lieutenant Calleja, no more Klingon lifesigns within a click. Cardassian and Vorta lifesigns are diminishing. Suggest we move; something's going on there and I need to get there now.]
“Away team, cease fire. Safeties on,” Mara said into the comm, as Robin’s words confirmed what she saw. “Regroup at the perimeter fence.”
As the officers gathered together, Omdor caught the Bandaran’s attention.
"Engineering ready to move when you are," he said, and she acknowledged him with a nod.
"Good job everyone, but now we gotta move. I’m makin’ a change to the initial teams, swappin’ Mayfair and Eun. Robin, you’re with me. Han, you’re with Miller. Stick to the plan. Team 1, we’re checkin’ out the holdin’ pen and lookin’ for a command centre. Team 2, check out the clonin’ facility itself. Be careful. We’ve taken out the garrison, such as it was. But the clones themselves could still be plenty hostile.”
She looked around, making sure everyone was still upright and unharmed before she gave her next order.
“OK. Move out,” Mara said, letting her officers take point.
