Mapping the system based on known phenomena was a simple process, but crucially did not factor in any of the unknown phenomena that the Yeager hadn't encountered yet. Fortunately the final run to the finish was a straight line, and so long as Chertstone didn't deviate from his current heading, they would reach the finish line eventually.
If the Yeager were somehow diverted off course, however, there was a very real risk they would run into something nasty..
