Behind him, Flint heard a single word. It was calm. Far more calm than he felt. And the voice for a moment sounded like that of an angel. “Fire.”
The screen and sensors cleared instantaneously. The planet. The stars above. And that POS Wairaran all appeared at once. Flint didn't even flinch as he cranked the throttle all the way up to eleven and beyond. Yeager pushed forward catching and passing the now rapidly decelerating Tasselbout.
In his head, as the bridge passed where he calculated where the Wairaran's bridge was, Flint took the time to extend his arm and flip whoever was piloting that accursed ship the bird.
Hasta la vista, mother fluffer!
Then the screen erupted with bright flashes and strange lettering. It resolved moments later to [First Place]
Flint blinked. They'd done it. They'd won.
Now his fingers worked again, but now to bring the ship back down. To a full stop. Half his mind was doing its job. The other half was still pumping with adrenalin.
He didn't hear the last thing the Captain said as he let out an ear splitting “”YES!” while punching the air with both fists.
