Gath acknowledged, "Aye, sir."
With that, he secured his station and had another Security Officer take over his duties on the Bridge. Once that was complete, he headed for the Shuttle Bay.
Gath had stopped off to put on one of the upgraded EVA suits. There was thin armor plating in some areas while the rest of the fabric was more reinforced to resist tears and punctures. It still allowed freedom of movement, but more protection than a standard suit. He also selected a helmet that would allow for maximum visibility. He wasn't really worried about hostilities, just jagged metal and possible systems failures. The ship they were going to looked like it was made of rather fragile materials. He estimated that the hull was only a few millimeters thick in most places, meaning he could cut through it with a knife or hand axe, like it was a tin can.
There was a phaser in a holster on his belt, but it was secured and he only carried it because it was regulation. There were also a couple of other items on his belt, but most of them he carried while on duty on the ship. The only difference this time was that they had retractable tethers to them, should he lost his grip on them while in free space. He quickly tested the tiny thrusters of his suit and gave himself a "preflight" check, then stood next to the shuttle with his helmet held in one hand, waiting for the rest of the team to load up.
