While she was hopefully optimistic that the Klingons had kept some record during their time at the base, Aeryn couldn't help but let out a low whistle upon discovering who was actually responsible for keeping them. Upon further reading, the DH learned that the colony, as it were, had existed for only the last ten years, and only because the clones had woken up. The scientist within understood that if they hadn't, then the team from Artemis may never have encountered the Klingons or the clones, for that matter, something to digest later, as the redhead continued going over the information.
In the time since the clones had been told about the base being abandoned by the Dominion, and what had caused them to wake, they had formed quite a society, even if they were reliant on what technology was still working. Fascinating was one word that entered Aeryn's mind, despite who they were, and who they had been created by. Then again, the Dominion were long gone, leaving the clones to function without them, using what basic skills they were given, before the Klingons swooped in. After that, things got a lot worse, which almost made Aeryn feel sick to her stomach, with how the Klingons had treated the clones, not surprising really considering what the Artemis had stumbled on.
Stripped of the proper nutrients, forced to fix equipment that they didn't understand, and then the Klingons not listening to what they were telling them while selling what they could ... yeah, that seemed to track. It also appeared as though Artemis had arrived at a crucial time, with some Klingons remaining to try and get the facility operational once more, without apparent success, while also pulling their assets from the area.
" This is not what I expected, but at the same time, my hunch about the Klingons was almost right", she said quietly to Pearson before deciding that Mara needed to hear this, instead of waiting until team one regrouped with team two.
Tapping her commbadge, Aeryn updated the COS about their discovery.
" Miller to Calleja, we've found the base records thanks to the clones keeping them up to date. Turns out they've been running things ever since they woke up about ten years ago, due to a failing cryofreeze. This confirms that there's been no recent Dominion activity, as they abandoned this place and never came back. The Klingons turned up six months ago, realised what they had stumbled on, and tried to force the clones to fix the equipment, stripping and selling what they could. Without the food supplements that the clones needed to continue, and the Klingons, not caring, they started to pull their assets out of here, which is lucky for us, as some of them stayed behind to try and get the base functional again, but with no success".
Aeryn paused for a moment to let Mara catch up.
" We'll download everything that we've found, but wanted to let you know first".
Report given, Aeryn felt as though team one had accomplished their goal. Of course, there was still the refrigeration unit behind the other locked door, but maybe that had been locked for a reason, given what they had learned. Perhaps it was still worth checking out as she awaited Mara's response.
