Jez was surprised when Commander Velaul kissed Alex on the cheek; the look on his face was priceless. The rumors on board were that Commander Velaul had a major crush on Commander Talion; in fact, one rumor was that they were actually married, but Jez didn’t place any stock in those rumors, as her roommate K’vada had put it, “Commander Talion is the embodiment of all that is chivalrous and noble.”
Jez had to laugh when Alex looked at her and said, "Um...what just happened?"
Jez had to admire Alex’s naivete. She couldn’t help but realize that Alex probably missed the most obvious flirts from the women on board, not that he wasn’t interested; it was probably because he was lost in some Scientific quandary, a technological puzzle that set up house in his brain. His Gray Matter is working overtime to solve the mystery, to fix a problem. As a result, the woman's flirtatious advances were probably lost in a special compartment in his brain marked extraneous irrelevant information. However, Jez knew the truth: Alex was a devoted father to Reyna and no doubt devoted to his late wife, Kristina.
Jez could only imagine the pain Alex must be feeling, the idea of not having his wife there to see their child growing up, missing the milestones in Reyna’s life, her first words, high school graduation, and Reyna’s wedding
Jez looked at Alex, “You're a man, and Beno is a woman. I think it would be obvious to you.” Said Jez, her tone jokingly. “You did take a Biology class, didn’t you?”
Jez had a million thoughts running through her mind. She didn’t know how to thank Alex for all his help. He didn’t really know her, but like a Knight of old Earth, he was willing to help a damsel in distress.
“What happened was that she clearly likes you.” Said Jez, her tone matter of factly.
