== Exterior of the Broken Arrow ==
As A’kilees began the first cut away the hull with the phaser. The initial cut seemed fine but soon there was an issue. The frozen brittle alloy of the ancient ship didn’t melt away, it caused a heat reaction! Pressurized vapor began to violently discharge from the phased surface and suddenly the entire structure of the ship shook and groaned with a low metallic moan.
“Gwarkrrgack!” A’kilees swore as he attempted to put his arm up to shield himself from the vapor spray and to try to regain his balance. The ship continued to shake for a moment until it abruptly stopped. A’kilees wiped away the frozen vapor that covered his helmet and looked to see the golden light of the Zephyr’s tractor beam wrapping itself around the ship.
[Bridge to Away Team.] It was the Commander over the comm. [We read a structural tremor. We have locked the main tractor beam to stabilize the hull, but the stress on that frame is immense. You have your window, Commander. And Brennan, keep that shuttle tight. Get those pods out now.]
Nice save Commander, quick thinking. A’kilees thought. Commander Ameen’s engineering background and experience was definitely a valuable asset for this kind of mission.
[Mister A’kilees] Lieutenant Gath addressed him directly. [You may need to reduce your cutting to a very fine focused beam, or a mechanical tool. This hull is reacting to the heat. I also suggest avoiding the stringers and longerons until the very end. We remove the hull plating first and the minor support structures last. We should be able to avoid the bulkheads entirely. We may be able to use the brittle nature of the hull to our advantage. I’m going to try and score it and then break off some of it, to widen some of the damaged opening.]
A’kilees quickly tapped on his comm badge.
[Aye sir! The cutting schematics accounted for avoiding the support structures, we’re just removing the hull to get inside but didn’t account for the em*gwar*brittlement being this severe. Away Team, lower the aperture of the phaser beam and stand back a few feet in case of more pressurized vapor. We need everyone to keep cutting, we don't have much time so be efficient and surgical.]
A'kilees lowered the apature of the hand phaser to nearly the smallest beam possible and attempted to cut a second time.
"C'mon you hunk of metal." he muttered to himself "Play nice and let us save your crew."
