Gath was quite satisfied when the hull plating cracked and then broke directly along the score line he had created. It had been an educated guess, but it was always a good feeling when you were right about such matters. When it broke away, he took note of the exposed structure of the plating. The use of a honeycomb design was often used in craft to reduce weight while adding strength, but the cells being filled with a frozen substance was something different. He had seen sealant used before, but not quite like this.
Shrugging it off as something to add to his report, he guided the plate free and gave it the gentle nudge it needed to clear the immediate area. Hearing that the CO was approving of his efforts and eager for him to continue, he turned his attention to how to best cut through the inner skin as well. He was glad that there was no internal pressure to contend with, but wanted to still make certain they didn't compromise any other structural members or systems. With a practiced hand, he performed a similar effort at cutting his way, testing the resistance of the metal and when it came free, guiding it safely out of the way. He controlled his breathing as he did so, wanting to remain calm, even though he was trying to do his work with as much urgency as he could afford.

Once the hole was large enough, he closed the weapon back up and placed it back on his belt with one hand while he began guiding himself through the hole with the other. His helmet lights were on and he glanced around to see what the inside looked like as he stated, [I'm in...]
