Ian was both relieved and disappointed that the race was over. He loved playing with the engines, and every system they connected to, but he had not enjoyed fighting for his life and balance and mental state while doing it. The entire experience made him feel as if he was trying to thread a needle while on a trampoline, surrounded by strobe lights.
He rubbed his eyes, not because they hurt, but because he needed to stand still for a moment. They had already started and were now about in the middle of their clean up from it all; Ian had all-too-happily crawled into conduit after conduit to check for -and repair- the damage.
Two Security officers stood watch over them now; Ian couldn’t imagine why. Maybe the other racers were coming aboard to tour the ship that had beaten them all? Ian looked around at the state of Engineering, let alone the state of his uniform – he certainly wasn’t presentable. He really hoped no one was about to ask him to be a tour guide.
Wiping his dirty hands on his dirty pants, he looked around to see what everyone else was doing, and in what stage of progress they were in with their own tasks.
I’d ask for something else… He thought, looking around again, as if he’d miss the behemoth that was his boss the first time around. but… It was mighty hard to miss the Chief. Giant lizard-like creatures usually were that way. Maybe I’ll… A fiendish feeling came over Ian, even if his cheeks did flush ever-so-slightly. Maybe I’ll go see if Sickbay needs any help…
Grabbing his kit on the way out the door, Ian tried to move as nondescript as possible, even though he felt as obvious as one could be.
