After Jex had placed her hand on the PADD and it gave a soft chirp to indicate that it had registered her data and it had been time stamped for starting the legal process, he tapped to clear the screen and put it to the side. He gave her a reassuring grin and replied to her, "People like him only tend to learn through negative reinforcement. In his case, what he values most is how his family and peers view him, and of course, his money. Without his money, he has little to fall back on. General aspects of the case will become known by the right people and word will quickly spread from there. His family will be quite upset with him that their lives and money are going to be part of the scandal as well."
He tilted his head and elaborated, "As for the case, there will be two parts. The first is going to be about you. The fact that he manipulated you and used you, but when you became pregnant, you were suddenly the victim of his wrath and degraded. The pocus there will be on your personal pain and suffering as a result of his duplicitous behavior. The second will be that based on the first part, he is an unfit role model and parental figure, therefore, you will have sole custody. His pattern of behavior is going to be classified in criminal psychological terms that will label him as a danger and a menace, requiring his to maintain a distance from you both of at least one light year. This will include listing him as a sexual predator in public record. The court will require him to maintain constant updates of his location at all times, at his expense, and if at any time his travel plans conflict with your own, you'll be notified and have the option to refuse him travel to that area until you vacate the area. Should he violate this order, it will likely mean jail time."
His grin widened, "You see, Jez...in this case, YOU are the innocent party and you WERE and still ARE hurt, so we're seeking justice. Even if he tries to imply that you were leading him on and that sort of thing, the child is certainly innocent of any questionable behavior. His willing participation constituted a binding contract with the contribution of his genetic material, thus, the child can't lose in this, no matter what. At the very least, you're going to see his family react to him. What might reduce your financial win here is if they disinherit him and he goes broke as a result of bringing such a tarnish to their name. I rather doubt that though, as he came by the behavior naturally enough. From what I know, they aren't normally quite as vile as he appears to be, but they certainly have a reputation for the more unsavory side of wealth. They will at least try to distance themselves and protect their assets. You might be offered an obscene amount of money to make it go away quickly if they try to do damage control. If so, take the money, and agree to the quiet, but only if he still gets to quietly be punished. You'll likely gain a bit of respect from his family if you do that and you'll get to hold your head a bit higher with the win.There's a small danger that they completely disown him and yank his entire fortune, in which case, he might become violent. I seriously doubt that will happen, but if it does, I'll take care of it. The worst thing he could do is to show up while me and my family are still around. I wouldn't worry about it."
Shortly thereafter, Beno returned to their table on her way to speak with Cindy and Jonas. Her hand on his shoulder made him glance at Jez and he fought back a grin, knowing the thoughts she had expressed on the matter. When Beno had finished and asked, "Miss me anyone?"
Under other circumstances, he could put on a good poker face, but when it came to potentially personal topics, he was a terrible liar. He felt a light blush hit him and grinned to her, "Indeed! Jez was doing her best to try and impart to me her feminine wisdom on the meaning of your kiss on my cheek earlier. I confess that my data on such things has been mostly limited to ones given by my daughter over the last few years, so my qualifications on the matter appear to be questionable at best."
Alex offered Beno a warm smile as he finished poking a bit of fun at himself, but then quickly gave her an option of a distraction from the topic, giving a tiny nod in the direction of Jonas and Cindy, "Everything alright with our guest?"
