At Beno's comment that Reyna was still a few years from needing firearm training, Reyna gave a confused look and tilted her head, much like Thor sometimes did, but she remained silent. Beno's words turned to a simpler explanation of what was needed, to which Reyna seemed to understand and gave a simple nod. When Beno finished, Reyna simply came to attention and gave an impressively professional salute that would have made any Academy instructor proud.
When Beno gave Thor a pat on the head, she could feel how amazingly real he felt to the touch, right down to his breath near her hand.
Reyna watched Beno walking away and said to her dad, "I get the impression I shouldn't tell her that I was hoping to get her to approve some range time. I would really like to stay proficient."
Alex replied, "For now, I suggest sticking to the holodeck so that you don't upset anyone. They aren't accustomed to seeing a child handle such weapons. Besides, you're still working on your long distance shots, aren't you?" Reyna nodded, "Well, there you go. The math can be a bit tricky depending on the planet you're on and the rate of rotation can be a factor on those shots that are over 800 meters."
She nodded, "I'm solid out to 600, but start picking up drift abt 800. If I'm ever going to get better at the 1000 and further, I need to get those variables right. The basic math isn't that hard, but trying to read the wind for gust and timing the arrival of the shot isn't like simply leading a moving target at 100 meters. When you're firing a projectile that far, it feels more like an art form than using a weapon."
Alex smiled and nodded, "I know what you mean. I'm good with one to about 100, but beyond that I am questionable unless I'm using an energy weapon."
She smiled back and rolled her eyes at him in an exagerated way, mocking him in a playful way that made him laugh. He stood and added, "Well, I guess I'm done here after all."
Reyna took his hand as they began to walk toward the door, Thor trailing behind them, "You know dad, you really do need to start dating again. There are plenty of women on this ship that you can pick from and you're not getting any younger."
He just replied, "We'll see kiddo. We'll see."
