Mara's response was exactly what Aeryn needed to hear, and she could never turn down a good cup of coffee. Something the Science Chief had always enjoyed, because sometimes it was the perfect solution to soothe the soul, not to mention a great alternative whenever alcohol wouldn't do. Also, Aeryn had made sure to upgrade the coffee as soon as she changed departments, and while the machine wasn't quite like the one Mara had, it was still pretty decent. An important step, especially when the redhead sympathised with why Mara wanted a cup right now, even if she hadn't been present when the mission ended the way it did.
" I'll take that compliment, but I also don't blame you for putting your own stamp on the place", she began. " And I'd love a cup, because I'm with you on that one, although I confess most of my paperwork is finished, it's amazing what you can get done on little sleep and lots of coffee".
The last part was said in jest; however, there was some truth in it, and Aeryn doubted it would ever change for as long as she remained on active duty, and the missions they were given. While not everyone was the same, there was always some emotional pushback after, even if you weren't directly involved. The darker eyes on Mara told Aeryn that, and she wouldn't be surprised if she had a similar look, despite the slightest hint of makeup, in the attempt to make herself feel a little better.
For now, though, Aeryn took a seat, placing the box next to her as there was plenty of time to reveal what was inside.
