"I'll take that compliment, but I also don't blame you for putting your own stamp on the place," Aeryn replied. "And I'd love a cup, because I'm with you on that one, although I confess most of my paperwork is finished, it's amazing what you can get done on little sleep and lots of coffee."
Mara snorted.
“Yeah, I getcha,” she said as she crossed to the coffee machine, loaded it up and got it running with a practiced ease. “I think I might be pushin’ that a bit too far honestly. A couple of nights with only a few hours, I can cope. But I honestly ain’t slept properly since we got back. And I’m fuckin’ shattered. Mostly runnin’ on bloody-mindedness, spite and caffeine at this point.”
The Security Chief still knew her old boss’ coffee order from their time working together, and she laid the mug down in front of the redhead before sagging into the other guest chair in front of the desk.
“So what’s in the box that you’re pointedly not talkin’ about,” Mara asked with a wry smile on her lips, cradling her mug in her hands. “Did you bring me Sydesh’s shit to burn for you? ‘Cause I’d do that all day.”
