Mara's response was to be expected, nor did Aeryn have to tell her friend how she liked her coffee; the benefit of having spent time together in this very office working, planning or just talking in general whenever the mood took them. In some ways, her being there reminded the redhead of those times and how they didn't need change just because she was no longer in Security. Although her dual efficiency in both had certainly come in useful during the last mission, as Aeryn listened to Mara, understanding why it had been difficult for the Bandaran to sleep, not to mention how she was currently functioning, which drew a grin of sympathy from the redhead.
" Ah, yes, good old spite, I know that feeling well", she began as Mara set the coffee mug down in front of her. " I doubt any of us has gotten a decent night's sleep since we left that outpost".
While she couldn't speak for everyone, Aeryn could only speculate as well as talk freely to Mara, as she thanked her friend and picked up the mug before Mara said something that made her chuckle. Aeryn knew it was only a matter of time before she noticed the box, and there was no point delaying it any further or admitting to what she had done with Beka's stuff.
" I know you would, and as tempting as that would be to see it burn, I had Nat take it back. Maybe we can be friends someday, but not right now; it's still too raw".
Aeryn wasn't lying; however, she wasn't quite ready to admit that it had been one of her worst breakups, even if it had been for the best. So Aeryn turned the conversation back to the box, grinning as she handed it over to Mara. " A little gift from one Chief to another, I'd originally wanted to give it to you before now, but things got in the way".
Inside was a silver Celtic dagger with a wrapped black leather hilt engraved with a wolf and a green gem.
