The lift ride was short, giving him just enough time to smooth out the wrinkles in his uniform tunic. When the doors parted, the Bridge was a picture of calm efficiency. The red emergency lighting was gone, replaced by the cool, standard illumination of a Starfleet vessel holding position.
He stepped out, his eyes immediately going to the main viewscreen. The dangerous debris field was gone, reduced to a harmless cloud of dust drifting in the void.
He walked down into the command well, nodding to Lt Powl, who was seated in the center chair.
"Excellent work holding the line up here, Lieutenant," Ameen said, his voice calm and steady. "Commander Keir is wrapping up in Sickbay and will be up shortly to formally relieve you."
Ameen didn't take the center chair. Instead, he stood for a moment, letting the familiar, comforting hum of the ship's power grid vibrate through the deck plates. They had twelve sleeping giants in the belly of the ship and a crystal box full of ghosts, but for now, they were safe.
"Once the Commander arrives, they have the conn," Ameen instructed, turning toward the doors of his private office. "I'll be in my Ready Room. I have a rather unbelievable log to write."
Or I may just fall asleep... I'm sure Hanna will allow it... Heck she would write for me if i asked her... no... I really shouldn't...
