Hallowette smiled politely at Mara's declination, then set the pie aside so anyone so inclined could help themselves to it. She took no offense, and even offered her friend an apology, "Oh, sorry Chief, I didn't know. I wouldn't have offered." Her fair skin flushed a bit, "My bad."
The hybrid Trill/Bajoran took the opportunity to follow Mara up for another plate of the delicious food, and she did her best to create an approximation of her beloved hasperat. A piece of flattened bread she thought was called 'naan', and series of earth vegetables, and then a layer of the spiciest of the meats. She folded over the bread, creasing the sides so that the filling formed a bit of a pocket. She noticed a man she didn't know at the BBQ watching her with curiosity, and she grinned proudly before taking a bottle of citrus squash and sparkling water.
As she returned to the table she flattened her billowing dress as she sat down next to Aeryn, arraying her food before her, surveying it before picking it up and taking a bite. The flavors burst forth, and the heat of the spice and cool veggies mixed with pleasure in her mouth. It wasn't really anything like Bajoran Hasperat, but honestly, it was still pretty good. She picked up napkin, wiped remnants of the spicy juices from her chin and took a swig of the juice. While she hadn't always been a fan of earth based foods, citrus fruits were where her tastes deviated. She loved the orange and yellow fruits that grew here. Across the galaxy, only Earth had fruits that produced this exact combination of sweet and tangy, and she adored it.
She looked up as Mara queried the table about Mara's friends. She set the bottle of squash back down and turned her attention to Aeryn.
