Aeryn listened as Mara talked, happy in the knowledge that she knew the COS well enough by now to gift her something meaningful and unique. The redhead also understood the importance of having such things, items that you could say were yours, to work in unison alongside the tools they required to survive and do their jobs. Mara's analogy about them having a soul, well, Aeryn couldn't have described it better herself, liking how the Bandaran had phrased it.
" Exactly, they're something that are uniquely ours, that no one else has, and we know that they'll get the job done whenever we need them to".
Regardless of her move to Science, it would never stop the CSO from relying on her personal weapons, because even if she didn't need them for defensive purposes, they would still prove to be handy when gathering difficult samples and such. Everything had a specific use as Mara then asked about her new department, with a little teasing, of course, not that Aeryn expected anything less. She knew it came as a surprise to many, and her friend wasn't wrong either, as going from COS to CSO wasn't typical.
"I agree it wasn't the usual path, and I understand why you didn't get it," Aeryn began. " After that last run-in with the Cardassians, it made me realise a few things, and I have to admit, I'm loving the change and the different challenges it brings. The people, well, they're not a bad bunch at all. I've definitely earned their respect, and they made the switch easy, although I do miss Security from time to time".
