Before Lucy could finish her first burger she knew it wasn’t fair on Mara and stuck a mental sticky note on that memory. She considered how she’d feel if the same had happened to her. She didn't consider herself strong enough to swing for somebody if they did that to her. She was meant to be being better and growing up.
There was also the emotional baggage from the end of the last mission. Mara and Robin had been having a conversation that Lucy was trying not to recall. A warrior with the soul of a poet. That in turn meant struggling with abstract concepts. Cognitive dissonance was a frequent experience. To experience something contrary to the values held by your culture.
The cruel calculus of life, but it would not have been necessary… Lucy knew that to make forward movement lessons were learnt and there were things best left in the rear view. Lucy needed to get to know people. There were some she’d happily ignore.
One in particular was getting a deserved RYNO (Rip-You-a-New-One). Lucy was glad that Robin was handling it. She was still working on her emotions and even though she felt the boil Lucy moved to join the others while keeping a cautious distance. She was certain she’d completely missed the narrative of the situation.
Once the pair had departed Robin gave the Andorian a welcome. Changes happened and learning to adapt with them was a reasonable means of staying moderately sane. There were things she’d prefer to forget. Some changes were a special level of upheaval. It took work.
