It would have been an understatement of galactic proportions to say that Beka was relieved to hear Mara’s acceptance of her apology. The redhead’s life had flashed before her eyes in those few moments and it hadn’t been a fun experience.
"Beka... go over there and meet your newest doctor." Robin nodded towards an Andorian who was sat on her own, and she was using that special tone to indicate that, friends or not, this wasn’t a suggestion. "And you might want to try and make a good impression on him, since he's assigned to alpha shift and will be reporting to you. Right now he probably thinks everyone on the Artemis is crazy. And I'm not sure I can disagree."
“Yeah. I’ll… I’ll be somewhere else I think,” Beka said, and she ducked away as Aeryn calmed the still-furious COS.
Sydesh took a very quick dip in the lake to wash off the drink that had been pitched over her and then headed over to where Reeve and Okehampton were still sitting.
“How did that end up being my fault?” she asked with a sigh, drying herself off with a towel. “I wear a drink and get smacked in the face, and I’m suddenly the one apologising.”
“Do you seriously need us to answer that?” Cam replied laconically. “Take a deep breath after the cheap shot, Calleja has that woman in the brig 5 minutes later. But no. You go full Beka Sydesh, and shove the Chief of Security into the lake and expose her tits to everyone nearby. That right there is why you’re apologising, and how you just proved you’re a stone-cold 10 on the crazy scale.”
There was a strange noise from Nat as she tried to hold back the laughter, before it burst from her in a gale.
“He’s got you there,” the brunette managed, trying to gulp in some air and get the giggles under control. “Calleja is always in baggy clothes. Like she doesn’t show anything at all. And then here you come, in a wet clingy hurricane, and she’s all out there on show.” The control didn’t last long, and the treacherous laughter bubbled up from her throat again. “Your head should be on a spike right about now.”
“Smartarses, the pair of you,” Beka replied hotly. She sighed again, her temper cooling almost instantly. “I’d like to just go ten minutes without being… Well. Without being me. Even when I’m trying to behave, chaos just seems to follow me.”
“It’s certainly never dull being around you, I’ll give you that,” Cam said with a grin.
Beka laughed at that one.
“I wouldn’t mind trying dull for once,” she said. She opened the small bag she’d brought with her and pulled out a cream-coloured cover-up that she threw on over the top of her swimsuit. Digging out a scrunchie, she tied her vivid ginger hair back in a quick ponytail, and put on a pair of aviator-style sunglasses.
“Duty apparently calls,” Beka added. “Try not to get too hot and heavy with each other, or the morality police will give you a good dousing too.” Still barefoot, she headed over to where Robin sat with the newbie.
“Nonsense, reporting for duty,” Beka said, taking a seat on the bench next to the Andorian. “I’d say it’s not always like this around here, but it pretty much is. At least, the bit around me always seems to be,” she added with a shrug and an impish smile. “Beka Sydesh. Good to meet you.”
