Cindy nodded as she took in the information, "This sounds contradictory, so there must be something that has changed. A mother with sole custody is allowing a child not yet of age to venture out of her control and into the hands of Star Fleet, who she doesn't approve of. This means she is either prepared to allow him to pursue his desires or she is unable to control him enough and is hoping the realities of Star Fleet might be the answer to either dissuade him or tame him a bit. Since there are obvious public means of him receiving the education he would need for Star Fleet entrance, I'm speculating that it is more the desperation than a softening of her stance."
With a small pause, Cindy then asked, "How does Beno feel about this impending visit? Raising kids can be very complicated. Every child is different. It's also very different when you're personally invested in the outcome. The teen years can be quite volatile and challenging for most parents. Reyna will certainly be a unique challenge when she reaches that age."
