ZE/D07 - Engineering

A’kilees looked up from his EPS diagnostic towards Raven after feeling the pat on his shoulder. “Thanks though I hardly feel like a *click* hotshot, but I’m glad to have performed well during the mission.” he replied “and honestly I’ll remember to not use my mouth for any further Engineering purposes from this point forward.” He could feel his mouth was still tingling a bit after his treatment in Sickbay, though very thankful that it was fully healed. A'kilees then smiled mischievously towards his fellow human engineer. “And why not tell them? Surely the crew would love to poke fun at their midshipman over drinks. It’ll all be something to laugh at later anyways.”

The saurian was quite happy to get Raven’s input about the EPS tap. A’kilees still relied on her expertise of the vessel and what it’s current capabilities were so getting a confirmation from his senior. He had been studying the Zephyr’s layout and capabilities from the PADD he had received from her a while ago when he had first come aboard but found it difficult to fully memorize everything due his daily engineering duties and the extent of Zephyr’s numerous and complex systems.

When the topic of how the mission went came up, A’kilees had thought hard and for a long time about those issues during the mission and after returning to the Zephyr as well. Raven’s compliments were appreciated and her criticisms were completely valid since not deviating from his own plan initially and just going straight to attempting to cut the hull with the phaser causing a chain reaction with the ancient and frozen alloy hull. A’kilees however didn’t particularly agree with Raven’s assessment that the use of the plasma torch due to the brittle state of the hull as shown in early scans of the vessel and since the higher heat output and the shorter range of the plasma beam could have possibly been even more hazardous to himself and the away team. As per the cables, he conceded that the method might have been a little dangerous to himself but considering that the cables came from the cryopods and not the EPS that there would be a lower risk of power backfeed.

“The plasma torch might have been a different tool choice definitely, however there are some problems that come with it as well. It would have had a similar reaction, perhaps even more dangerous than using the phaser which is why I didn’t consider using it.” Akilees explained. “As for the cables, I felt the risk was negligible since it was from the pods themselves and not directly from the EPS, which surely would have definitely vaporized me if done improperly. Regardless, I do understand and appreciate the safety talk Raven. I’ll be sure to use this experience in the future.” he remarked sincerely, looking straight at her. “I value your straightforwardness on this Raven, thank you.”

It was at this time that a slight blip on the diagnostic screen caught the saurian’s eye. His attention quickly turned back towards the display.

“Wait, look there.” A’kilees pointed towards the schematic on the display screen. “There appears to be a thermal buildup in the secondary plasma distribution relay on Deck 5, just below Sickbay, probably due to the excess draw nearby.” the saurian suspected. It wasn’t an immediate issue from the readings but there was sure to be a problem if left alone too long, especially if the ship was heading towards it’s next destination in the next few cycles. A’kilees hurriedly picked up his Engineering kit which was still nearby from the away mission and threw the strap over his shoulder. “It looks like it will require manual calibration though, I’ll go check it out and then we can talk about drinks when I’m back.”
