Jez chuckled slightly when Kalli mentioned that she didn’t look pregnant. Yes, she didn’t look pregnant. The decision was made to place the fetus into cryostasis at twelve weeks. The fingers and toes lose webbing, nails are formed, and genitals develop.
Jez was surprised when Kalli mentioned killing Devyn. That thought had crossed her mind more than once, but what would that accomplish? Nothing; it would only feed into Devyn’s telepathic supremacist view of mixed telepathic races as inferior savages. Not to mention that she would end up in prison, and her baby would end up in Devyn’s custody.
“Kalli, I can’t find a married couple. Ideally, I want Starfleet officers to be my child’s guardians in case anything should happen to me, because it would be harder for Devyn and the Ninth house to get my child. My research indicated that the Federation often gives Starfleet officers greater leeway in legal matters, due to the fact that they aren’t always near a court. Not to mention that a Star Fleet Officer would raise my child in the tradition of the Federation, where all beginnings are equal and valued, not in the Telepathic Supremacy of some Betazoids.” Said Jez,
“Jez was ecstatic when Kalli said, "However, if something were to happen to you, I can promise you that I will keep your child safe and do my best to see that it is raised in a safe and strong home." This made Jez so happy. With Kalli as a godparent, her child will be taught engineering, taught hard work, and determination. Jez felt as if things were going to be alright.
Jez knew her legal battle wouldn’t be easy or short. Devyn and his family’s lawyers would go over her background with a fine-tooth comb, investigate everything she ever did in her life, every choice, every decision in an attempt to prove she would be an unfit parent.
“Jalli, I really appreciate you taking on this…this... This Challenge, if there is ever anything I can do, just let me know.” Stated Jez.
