Mara tilted her head and rolled Aeryn’s answer around in her mind.
“I still don’t get it,” she admitted. “I mean, yeah, it’s absolutely a change and different challenge. Someone once said that the atmosphere in a Security office was ‘egotesticle’ and I think that nailed it. From that to Science officers… Yep. Gonna be different.”
She grinned.
“But what was it about the Cardassians and those missions that made you look at the labs and go, that’s what I want to do? That’s the bit I don’t get. And I got stuck full of Cardassian venom so strong it damn near killed me. I get not wantin’ to do that again. But a whole job swap? Help me out here, ‘cause that seems like a hell of a leap.”
The Bandaran wanted to understand what had made her former boss jump ship. She was still getting used to the pressures that came from heading up the department now as Miller’s successor, and if there was something she needed to be careful of, or a pitfall on the road that needed to avoided, she was hoping for a warning.
