ZE/D01 - Ready Room
#28
Before Ameen could respond to his First Officer, the desktop comms chirped again, cutting through the tension in the room.

[Cortez to Captain Ameen, we need access to the Borg Linguistic Data Base, but neither Chief sh'Sjöress nor I has the proper Security clearance. We need it to be able to decode the alien language. Thank you, sir.]

Ameen raised an eyebrow. The Borg database was heavily restricted for obvious psychological and security reasons, but Midshipman Cortez was proving to be remarkably tenacious.

"Ameen here," he replied, tapping the console. "An unconventional approach, Midshipman, but a logical one. Limited Clearance is granted. Use authorization code Ameen-Gamma-Seven. Let me know what the Collective knows. Ameen out."

He closed the channel and brought his attention back to the officers seated in front of him. He looked at Amila, perched anxiously on the edge of her seat, clearly eager to get her hands back on the data module. He then turned his gaze to Keir.

"Commander Keir, I agree completely regarding the Medical Arch. That exposed EPS tap is a hazard. Get the replacement casing fabricated and installed immediately," Ameen directed, his tone leaving no room for debate. "However, the data module stays in the Science Lab. I do not want an unknown, active alien device transported through the ship's corridors any more than absolutely necessary. Send Midshipman A'kilees up to Science to assist Lieutenant Ra'an in constructing the Faraday cage there."

Ameen shifted his focus to the Bajoran science officer. "Lieutenant Keti, your instinct is spot on. Ship logs show that Lieutenant Powl is already running a reverse-trajectory analysis on the Bridge to pinpoint their exact origin point. Once you have the Faraday cage established, coordinate your subspace synchronization with Powl's Astrometrics data."

Finally, the Captain looked at Dr. O'Fee. "Doctor, you have your orders. Prep Sickbay. If their food is palatable, have it ready. Make the environment as non-threatening as possible before you administer the stimulant."

Ameen stood up from his desk, a clear physical cue that the briefing was over.

"Starfleet Command is already reviewing my preliminary reports. Given the magnitude of this discovery, I fully expect them to reroute a specialized cruiser to intercept us and take custody of our guests so we can resume our original duties. I want answers before that ship arrives."

He offered his senior staff a firm, confident nod.

"Get to work, everyone. Dismissed."
