Andrea smiled at the question from Jez, "Well, if it is that physical aspect alone, then it is called a preference. There might be reasons in your past that helped form that preference, but it might be no different than your favorite color or flavor of something. Sometimes you simply like what you like. I think it is more interesting that you become attached and perhaps might even fantasize about men you can't have. That is typically because that makes them safe. It allows you to get close, but there is always some barrier that will keep things from going too far. For you, being part Betazoid, there will always be a desire to connect with someone on a higher level, but it is sometimes possible to form those bonds with non-Betazoids, it is just not a given that it will be possible, that's all. You're a strong enough person though that I think if the other person is genuine and open to the idea, you could form such a bond. I know I have in my past and I've seen it many times in others. There's also the very typical thing that factors in for all people and that is simply that people tend to want most things that they cannot have. The hard part is sometimes the ability to be happy with what you do have."

Andrea smiled and added, "It is perhaps the hardest thing for us to find the secret balance within us. The idea that the more you strive to attain something, the more it will elude you. Yet, the more content you can become, the more you will find is actually within your grasp. I've seen entire cultures built up around such philosophies and they're not wrong. Imagine that you meet someone that you are attracted to, so you try to establish a relationship with them. Often, the more you try, the more likely it is to fail. You become too focused on being and doing something instead of simply being yourself and doing what already comes naturally. More often than not, it is that confidence and inner contentment that attracts a person that is of a like mind. If you want to be with someone, you want them to like the real you anyway. To be anything else is to begin a relationship under false pretenses, which is never a good idea."

Andrea too a sip of her tea, "I bring this up, because when a person feels a loss like this, it eventually leads to moments of examining your own life and mortality. This is perfectly normal, but I'm doing my best to give you some food for thought along the way."
