Jez rolled her eyes, she sat there with a look of horror on her face, as she realized that Andrea had just stepped on a land mine, she was challenging Mike about his Viking Heritage. Jez learned a long time ago to never, never question / challenge Mike about his Viking Ancestry.

No Girl, you just didn’t do that. Now we will have to sit here for hours listening to Mike lecture about his heritage. Please, please don’t go into the Viking exploration sagas.

Saying that Mike was proud of his heritage was a bit of an understatement, even Klingons didn’t carry on about their ancestry like Mike did.

Mike's eyes went wide in disbelief at Andreas' comments. His Viking blood began to simmer with disbelief and.

“Young Lady,” began Mike, in his full stern teacher voice.

“Oh NO…what are the chances of us falling under a Borg attack right now?” Thought Jez.

“Young Lady, you do realize that Lions once lived in Europe. Yes, lions once roamed extensively across Europe. During the Ice Age, a massive, apex predator called the Eurasian cave lion Panthera spelaea inhabited the continent, with fossil evidence showing their range stretched as far north as Denmark and Wales, “ Stated Mike, his voice dripping with pride.

Andrea, if I live a thousand years, I will never forgive you for forcing me to listen to this for like the Billionth time in my short life. Thought Jez, with a smile plastered on her face.

“Now, Andrea, it's the symbolism of what a lion meant at the time. Obviously, Christianity and the Bible had lots of references to lions, and I think lions have almost always been closely connected to courage. In Sweden's case, Gustavus Adolphus was called "The Lion of the North" because of his courage. So, in a simple and obvious answer, because it symbolizes courage and power, and the Nordic countries all liked that idea, I suppose. They've also always been heavily influenced by each other. In Finland's case, they used to be part of Sweden, and the Finnish Lion symbolism was given to them by Johan III, King of Sweden and Finland.” Stated Mike, pride in every word.

‘’ Just so you know, Viking berserkers were elite Norse shock troops who fought in uncontrollable, trance-like fury. Named from Old Norse meaning "bear-shirt", they worshipped Odin, discarded armor for animal skins, and possessed a legendary insensitivity to pain. Their terrifying combat style gave rise to the modern English word "berserk", but it doesn’t mean that they necessarily wore bear skins; they associated the image of the most powerful animals in their environment." Stated Mike, sounding like a History professor.

Jez sat there trying to figure out if it would hurt less if she took her fork and jammed it into her eye than to listen to this diatribe that she had heard almost daily as a kid.

Mike looked at Andrea and said, You're young, but I’ll have you know. The name Michael has a rich Scandinavian history, despite its original Hebrew roots, meaning "Who is like God?" During the Viking Age and the subsequent Christianization of the Nordic countries, the region's inhabitants adopted, localized, and transformed the archangel's name into distinct traditional variations that are still used today. A Variation of Mike, or Mikkel: Predominantly found in Denmark and Norway, this is the most famous Scandinavian variation. It emerged during the medieval period. Mikkel or Mikal: More specific, the more traditional Norwegian variations. My mother felt that Mikkel/ Mikal sound more Russian than Scandinavian,” stated Mike, his chest filled with pride and reverence.

Jez, wanting to shake Andrea right now, she shot her friend a look as if to say, “ We are being tortured because you opened Pandora’s box of Viking History,” but Jez sat there and smiled.

“Hey.. .hey... Mike, Less talking and more eating.” Said Jez.

Mike hated it when Andrea said, "Mike, we have never doubted your protective nature or ability. It is that only those of us who know you are qualified to say that we see your other side as well, and that we value and respect both. Those who only know the one, they are the outsiders. It's okay for family to know the truth about you, that you're a good man. Would you want it any other way?" He hated it because she was right on so many levels; he wasn’t sure why he kept people at arm's length, at least emotionally, especially those close to him. Maybe he was afraid that people would see the real Mike, the sensitive, caring, vulnerable man who cried at the movie Casablanca or reading Old Yeller made him weep like a little boy.

Mike didn’t know why soft emotions scared him, but they did. Maybe it was just the people who saw him and his build and expected him to be some emotionless brute.

Jez looked at Andrea as she patted her arm with a gentle hand. "You cook better than I thought you would. That was a good meal. I love it when someone can surprise me a little." Said Andrea. She then winked at Jez and took her own dishes over to the side. "I think my work here is done. I'm going to go and get some rest. You have much to think about and decide about your future, but you don't need me to do that."

Andrea’s wink wasn’t lost on Jez; she leaned over to Andrea and whispered, “Oh hell no, you're not getting off that easy; you opened up the trip into all things Viking.” Said Jez.

“Oh Andrea, you can’t let you leave until you try my Pad Thai. I made it just for you; it is made with sweet rice noodles, chicken, bell peppers, and Thai peanut sauce.” Said Jez, her voice filled with mock disappointment, payback for her trying to abandon Jez with Mike during his Viking tutorial.

Mike was oblivious to Andrea and Jez’s little exchange. “Well, Andrea, if you have to go, maybe we can talk again later.” Said Mike. “It’s been a pleasure,” added Mike.
